A registered trade mark is the only way to gain exclusive rights to use the name or logo. Company, business and domain name registrations do not provide this right. Therefore, trade mark registration provides security that you and only you own the name in relation to your products or services.

How do you register a trade mark?

Do I need to conduct a search before filing?

While pre-filing trade mark searches are not mandatory, we usually recommend these so you have a clear picture of whether your trade mark application might be rejected or opposed. You can search IP Australia’s database or if you want global protection try the Global Brands Database which is administered by the World Intellectual Property Office.
